Loreto Travel Info

Loreto’s unique location on the Sea of Cortez provides the ultimate seclusion for travelers seeking true rest and relaxation, away from the hussle and bussle of most popular beach destinations. Its natural beauty and diverse landscape creates a true sense of adventure.

Flights and Connectivity

The Loreto International Airport-LTO (IATA: LTO, ICAO: MMLT) has non-stop passenger flights scheduled to 9 destinations in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Its privileged location on the Baja California peninsula makes Loreto easily accessible from the United States, Canada, and mainland Mexico.

Current destinations from the U.S. include San Francisco (SFO), Los Angeles (LAX), Phoenix (PHX), and Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW). From Canada there's a seasonal flight from Calgary (YYC) that runs Dec. through April. Domestic flights include La Paz (LAP), Tijuana (TIJ), Culiacán (CUL), and Hermosillo (HMO).

Cruise Lines

A new stop along the Pacific Coast, Loreto has a renewed cruise ship schedule through 2023. Cruise ships in Loreto anchor offshore and their passengers are tendered to the town marina in the harbor. The marina is located within walking distance of the heart of downtown Loreto.

Cruise Lines include Holland America, Princess Cruises, and Windstar Cruises.

By Land

The driving distance from Los Cabos to Loreto is roughly 317 miles (510 km) and will take you approximately 6 hours. From La Paz to Loreto it's 221 miles (356 km) and roughly 4 hours. If you choose to drive the Baja from Tijuana to Loreto, you'll cover 694 miles (1,116 km) and close to 16 hours.

When flying you can also contact us for information on available ground transfers to and from the Loreto International Airport-LOT.

Local Currency

US dollars are accepted almost everywhere and you will get your change back in pesos. The exchange rate will vary day to day, but most places have a fixed rate posted. You can exchange currency at the airport, but an easy way to get pesos is to simply withdraw from an ATM at any local bank.

Banks and ATMs

Local banks include BBVA (Bancomer) and Banco Azteca. Bank ATMs give the daily exchange rate (best possible rate). When using an ATM remember to pay close attention to what currency you're withdrawing and try to get as much cash as possible to avoid higher ATM fees.

Cash vs. Cards

Visa and MasterCard are generally accepted, but it's likely you will run into cash-only establishments. Be sure to always ask beforehand and carry a bit of cash just in case. Keep in mind most businesses accept US dollars and your bank may charge international fees when you swipe.
